Junior FF Program
The Elsmere Fire Protection District would like to increase enthusiasm and moral with youths, rekindle it with veterans, and will better-serve those who protect and may contribute to the overall future of the fire district. Recruiting the younger generation from our community and utilizing their time and effort, in return for training and structure, is one of the many great traditions that help make the fire service what it is today.
Fire Fighting is one of the world’s most honored but hazardous occupations. It is the duty of every fire department to save lives and to reduce injuries and property loss. By becoming a fire fighter, an individual joins a profession that is rich in heritage of dedication, unselfish sacrifice and inspired human action. A fire fighter performs no greater service than coming to the aid of others. The firefighter’s job is not comfortable or easy; it is a profession that exposes an individual to a high level of personal stress and danger. Fire fighting requires a high sense of personal dedication, a genuine desire to help people and a high level of skill.
Much of the focus of this program will consist of learning about emergency operational methods and techniques as they pertain to firefighting, fire prevention and emergency medical services, and how the process of mastering these skills makes for a well-rounded young adult. JRFF members will be allowed to participate in basic training classes and will perform routine duties such as caring for departmental equipment and apparatus. As members progress and demonstrate competency, they may be given more responsibility and consider the fire/rescue field as a possible career path.
As you begin your JRFF program the Elsmere Fire District wants to keep safety at the forefront of all district operations and activities, meaning both the physical and psychological safety of both youth and adult members. In addition, the districts oversight also means the safety of your members and the district as a whole, as it pertains to legal and libel issues.
The Elsmere Fire District benefits greatly from having the Explorers serve with the department. We not only profit from the eagerness and energy of our youth, but also by investing time and leadership in our youth we are molding the fire service personnel of our future.
